چکیده
This paper from the Bulletin of the Bureau of Standards , Vol. 9, No. 1, 1913, pp. 131–150, is reprinted to commemorate the NIST Centennial on March 3, 2001. Ten papers have been selected from the Journal and its predecessors for this purpose, one from each decade of NIST’s existence. They appear in 10 of the 12 issues of the Journal published in 2000 and 2001, starting with the March–April 2000 issue (Vol. 105, No. 2). The papers have been selected to reflect the breadth and excellence of the work carried out at NIST during its first century. For further information, see the Message From the Chief Editor on p. iii.

Spectrophotometric Study of the Complexation of Iodine and Bromine with Tetrabutylammonium Halides and Cryptand 222 in Dichloromethane Solution
A spectrophotometric study concerning the interactoin between iodine and bromine with tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI), tetrabutyl- ammonium bromide (TBABr) and cryptand 222 (C222) has been performed in dichloromethane solution at 25°C. The results are indicative of the formation of TBA+X3- and C222X+X3- t...
متن کاملLabeling of Human Serum Albumin with Stable Isotope of Bromine; an in Vitro Study
Background: Possibility to trace-label albumin with isotopes results in information concerning its synthesis, breakdown, and distribution in the intra and extra cellular spaces. The iodination of albumin is a widespread procedure used in scientific studies. Bromine not only is more reactive and less expensive than iodine, but bonds more easily with many elements. Therefore, it could be a suitab...
متن کاملGlobal lifetime of elemental mercury against oxidation by atomic bromine in the free troposphere
[1] We calculate the global mean atmospheric lifetime of elemental mercury (Hg) against oxidation by atomic bromine (Br) in the troposphere by combining recent kinetic data for the Hg-Br system with modeled global concentrations of tropospheric Br. We obtain a lifetime of 0.5–1.7 years based on the range of kinetic data, implying that oxidation of Hg by Br is a major, and possibly dominant, glo...
متن کاملFlotation/magnetic stirring-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction combined with flame atomic absorption spectrometry for the preconcentration and determination of cadmium (II) after optimization using experimental design
Arapid, highly sensitive and efficient flotation/magnetic stirring-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction combined with flame atomic absorption spectrometry has been proposed for the preconcentration and quantitative analysis of trace amounts of cadmium (II) in the presence of sodium diethyldithiocarbamateas complexingagent. Parameters including sample pH, concentration of the complexingagent, ...
متن کاملAn Electrochemical Sensor Based on Novel Ion Imprinted Polymeric Nanoparticles for Selective Detection of Lead Ions
In this study, the novel surface ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) particles were prepared and applied as a electrode modifier in stripping voltammetric detection of lead(II) ion. A carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with IIP nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was used for accumulation of toxic lead ions. Various factors that govern on electrochemical signals including carbon...
